Bank Holiday Danish Film Night

When: Monday 25th May, 18:00
Where: The Spotted Dog, 104 Warwick Street, Digbeth, B12 0NH

The Spotted Dog’s Danish Sofie is resurrecting Danish Film Night on Monday, to bring you two dark comedies in a special Bank Holiday Double Bill:

By no popular demand whatsoever, Danish Film Night returns to the Spotted Dog with a double billing and MORE CAKE than it’s ever produced before, all on Bank Holiday Monday. Grab your friends by the arm and come on down for pints, drinks, cakes and dark comedies.

First film of the night will be THE GREEN BUTCHERS starring Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Hannibal, The Hunt) and Nikolaj Lie Kaas (In China They Eat Dogs, The Killing) as butchers Svend and Bjarne, who, fed up with their boss’ arrogance, decide to start up their own shop. After dismal beginnings, an unfortunate accident coincides with a large order of meat and as one hasty decision leads to another, business soon starts thriving.

The second film of the night will be FLICKERING LIGHTS starring Søren Pilmark (The Killing), Mads Mikkelsen (The Green Butchers), Ulrich Thomsen (Festen, Brothers) and Nikolaj Lie Kaas (The Green Butchers) as four small-time gangsters from Copenhagen who trick a gangster boss out of 4,000,000 DKK, which is all kinds of great until their van breaks down in the middle of rural Denmark and they’re forced to lay low (or try to and fail at) in an old, wrecked house.

We’re kicking off at 18:15 and estimate film two will start rolling at around 20:00. Cakes will go on the bartop at 18:00 sharp, so get down in decent time to make sure you get a bit of everything Danish Film Night has to offer.
