BBC Make it Digital Traineeships
Following a successful pilot, the BBC Make it Digital Traineeship programme has been launched nationwide. The nine-week traineeship teaches basic digital skills, such as social media planning, creating websites and videos for the web, and includes a three-week structured work placement with a company where the newly-acquired knowledge can have a real impact.
The trial of the course saw 50 young people from Birmingham and Solihull work with Custard Factory-based training companies Creative Alliance and TDM, as well as the BBC and other partners. The Digbeth location was chosen due to the proximity to the BBC’s digital guerilla unit in Fazeley Street.
As well as opening up opportunities for young people in the digital and creative sectors, it is hoped that the traineeship will impart digital skills that are in demand across all industries.
Over the next 12 months, 400 young people in Birmingham and up to 5,000 across the country, will benefit from training from the BBC Academy. Those who show high levels of potential will be encouraged to apply for BBC apprenticeships to continue their training.
