BIHG – The Sligo Masters
When: Wednesday 3rd February, 19:00
Where: Connaught Bar, Irish Centre Birmingham, High Street, Digbeth, B12 0LN
Free entry and refreshments
For their next meeting, Birmingham Irish Heritage Group (BIHG) presents The Sligo Masters – a film and talk by historian Martin Enright.
Sligo Masters is the story three Sligo musicians who emigrated to New York in the 1920s. The film brilliantly tracks the contribution these three musicians made to world music, as well as their stories of emigration which will resonate with any person who has left their home to live in a foreign country.
The stories of Michael Coleman, Paddy Killoran, and James Morrison, are entwined as they came from the same county and emigrated to New York around the same era, but are very different tales.
The evening will also feature entertainment from the current All-Ireland champion accordion player Daithe Gormley. Living and working in Sligo, Daithe’s research greatly assisted the production of Sligo Masters; come along to enjoy his world-class champion musicianship.
