Brazilian Percussion and Carnival Workshops at the Edge
When: Mondays (from 14th January), 19:00-21:00
Where: The Edge, 79-81 Cheapside, Digbeth
We all know that Digbeth is a melting pot of different and vibrant cultures and people. Brazilians have been edging into Digbeth since the inception of Espirito Brum two years ago. With the next iteration of the festival due later this year, why not get into the carnival mood with Oya Batucada, Birmingham’s original samba school, at the Edge on Cheapside?
Calling all residents of Digbeth and Highgate!
We have recently moved our workshop venue into the area. We are very keen to meet residents and anyone else who would be interested to join us in playing and participating in Carnival and Street Parades in Birmingham, The Midlands and beyond.
You may have seen us at the St. Patricks Parade, Mostly Jazz Festival, Artsfest, Latin American Festival, the Half-Marathon, Olympic Torch Relay… If not, check our web site pages and Facebook profile for pictures and videos.
We are a very social group of all ages, backgrounds and abilities who meet once a week on a Monday night from 6:30 pm til 9:30 pm at the Edge, 79-81 Cheapside. We teach Afro-Brazilian, Samba and Samba-Reggae Carnival Percussion and dance to anyone who wants to join from 7pm til 9pm.
All instruments are provided although you can bring your own if you wish to. Workshops cost a mere £5 and some concessions are available on request. The fee covers tuition, instrument hire and venue costs – please note we are a not-for-profit organisation.
Come and try us out! Workshops commence on January 14th and the first hour is free (if you want to join, you pay your fee at the midway break). On the first Sunday of every month, we also hold day workshops with our Musical Director from 2pm til 6pm. The first of these is on 3rd February 2013 – you can just come to these if you prefer.
We look forward to meeting you,
