Due to the success of last year’s cycle ride from the Spotted Dog to the Black Eagle in Hockley, Digbeth resident Val Woodward has kindly agreed to run another outing in 2012!

The ride will take the same route as last year, along the scenic canal network. Val is qualified to run bike trips, and has organised a number bicycles for those who do not currently own one to use. Please get in touch at contact@mydigbeth.co.uk to enquire about borrowing a bike for this trip.

The group is aiming to be back in Digbeth before dark. If you will be joining the ride, please email contact@mydigbeth.co.uk, or simply join the Facebook event.

DIGBETH WALK
When: Thursday 28th June
Where: Meet at the Spotted Dog at 17:30

For those more comfortable on two feet rather than two wheels, there will also be a walk around Digbeth organised for the 28th June. Again leaving at 17:30 from the Spotted Dog pub, the walk will take in the sights and sounds of Digbeth, returning to the Spotted Dog before dark.

Residents of Digbeth and Highgate were recently made aware of a day of sporting activities aimed at children, organised by West Midlands Police. This Saturday will be the first day of the scheme, which sets to continue weekly throughout the summer.

This coming Saturday sees a live ska, dub, folk, gypsy, punk music event at the Wagon and Horses, to raise awareness and funds for the Sea Shepherds Conservation Society. The acts include:

Established in 1977, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is an international non-profit making, marine wildlife conservation organisation. Its mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.

Local band UB40 filmed the video for Red Red Wine in the Eagle & Tun in Digbeth, so it’s fitting that another Digbeth venue is hosting a UB40 tribute act this Saturday!

The Irish Centre presents Johnny 2 Bad on Saturday 8th June, followed by an aftershow party with DJ Mikey B.

Even though it rained all day and the party was moved under cover to the Spotted Dog garden, that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits at the Digbeth Jubbly Street Party!
