David Gregory-Kumar presents a report on hyperlocal community journalism in the West Midlands - a still taken from the show with Digbeth is Good in the background.

Digbeth Institute

The recession took another high street victim last week when HMV called in the administrators on Monday. In a statement issued by HMV, the organisation emphasised that the Institute on Digbeth High Street will not be affected:

We would like to reassure all of our customers that this venue was acquired by MAMA and Company in December 2012 and is no longer a part of the HMV Group. We are in the process of removing the “HMV” name from the venue and from all of our marketing materials.

In the meantime please be assured that the recent announcements in relation to HMV do not affect this venue or any events taking place here. If you have bought a ticket from HMV Tickets and haven’t received it please contact us at info@hmvinstitute.com

So it looks as though the venue may return to its original Digbeth Institute name soon… Whatever happens, we’ll be sure to keep you updated!

Le Keux Vintage

In 2007 Lynsey Le Keux organised her own vintage wedding. Finding it hard to source suppliers and accessories she began LeKeux Events as a one stop shop for vintage events and experiences.

After steady expansion, Lynsey now offers pin up photoshoots (a great alternative present), hire of a vintage 1964 Ford Mustang, and The Vintage Salon right here in Digbeth’s Custard Factory, where “your beauty is their duty”. You can even recreate your own vintage look at home with the brand new line of LeKeux Cosmetics.

Le Keux complete over 1,500 make-overs and hundreds of hen, birthday and private parties, photo shoots and bridal services every year. And now, residents of Digbeth can enjoy a 10% discount on hair and make-up services at the salon! Simply book in advance by email, quoting discount code DIGBETHRES.
