iSE: Enterprise Match Project

WANTED! Unemployed residents living in Digbeth/Highgate to participate in iSE’s Enterprise Match Project!

Situated in the heart of Digbeth, iSE has been awarded a grant to support unemployed residents into work through a mixture of soft skill development, mentoring and voluntary work experience.

The Enterprise Match project will develop the skills of up to twenty unemployed residents by linking them with voluntary work experience placements within local social enterprises, community groups, charities, small businesses and not-for profit organisations.

Digbeth and Highgate have been targeted as one of Birmingham’s priority neighbourhoods, due to high levels of unemployment and economic inactivity. One of the many social enterprises in Digbeth, iSE are keen to take action to support the regeneration of the area and support local residents to take a more active role in their local economy.

Participants in the Enterprise Match project will attend workshops with an experienced iSE advisor to prepare them for a placement (from two weeks to three months in duration). iSE will continue to support participants even after their voluntary work placements are over, offering advice on how to best utilise the skills they have gained and how to present them to potential employers.

It is hoped that this project will not only help remove barriers to employment, but also encourage residents to become more active in their community.

If you are a local organisation that would like to provide a voluntary work placement opportunity, or if you are an unemployed resident in Digbeth or Highgate keen to get involved, then please contact iSE on 0121 771 1411 or email Marla Nelson. Further information is included in the poster below:

The Hub

The Women’s Enterprise Hub, a partnership between Birmingham City Council and South and City College, opened on Valentine’s day to provide support and training for women in business. Although the hub is there to support all women, there is a particular focus on helping those from minority ethnic backgrounds.

Based at South and City College’s Fusion Centre in Digbeth, The Hub provides courses in fashion and clothing alongside business skills, enabling students to take their fashion skills and turn them into an enterprise. There is also access to a range of partner services including workshops, advice and guidance, and support to pre-start up, start ups and existing businesses looking to develop and grow.

For more information and a list of courses on offer, click here to visit the South and City College website.

Birmingham Metro Scheme – Site Office and Compound

Following an announcement from Midlands Water in October, please see further information below:

Dear Residents and Businesses of Digbeth,

We are undertaking some of the facilitation works on behalf of Severn Trent Water for the new Metro scheme in Birmingham City Centre.

To this end, we have positioned temporary portacabins as site offices on Barford St, and we are also using a materials compound on Rea St South. These two bases in Digbeth play an integral part in minimising disruption to the City Centre. However, we also want to ensure that any impact to the local community in Digbeth is kept to an absolute minimum.

We would welcome feedback, both positive and negative, of any impact we have made or any concerns that have been raised by local residents or businesses. To date, we have not been made aware of any issues.

If you have any queries or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Paul Edwards

In fact, the entire dance group from Wales will be attending Dome Club tomorrow. The evening will end with a screening of Written on the Body (9min) – the world’s first ever fulldome dance film created in Digbeth.

Kind regards,
St Patrick’s Organising Committee
