I recently met Sharon, the new proprietor of CG’s Café on Bradford Street. Here’s her tale:
My parents ran away to the UK from Dublin 1965; my dad was a well-known musician who even did a few gigs at the Birmingham Irish Centre! Irish music played a massive part in my growing up, and I was his roadie and Guinness provider while on tour.
After a 20-year career in accountancy software sales, I took redundancy and followed my dream of opening an Irish-style café. I saw this place for sale, and made my dream a reality.
I love explaining the difference between a full English and a full Irish, and a few of the hipsters from the flats are coming back for the bit of white pudding!
Sharon serves home-made soups, freshly-baked cakes, and full Irish breakfasts. I sampled a full Irish fry on Saturday: it was a tasty weekend treat, and I definitely felt the Irish hospitality when I struggled to finish my plate!I also had a proper cup of tea, using Sharon’s innovative brew-o-meter to pick my level of brew from weak southern tea to full-strength Irish.
