Digbeth First Friday
We’ve heard it time and time again: once people get to know Digbeth, they understand how great we are as an area, but apart from big annual events like St Patrick’s Day, we do little to show ourselves off.
Well, that’s all about to change! A group of creative spaces have joined together to put on a critical mass of interesting and varied events on the first Friday of every month, beginning on Friday 2nd May.
This is nothing different from what usually happens in Digbeth, the one change being that instead of being spread out, events will be concentrated to happen on the first Friday, making it easy for visitors to zigzag between venues, shops, pubs, clubs, galleries, and eateries.
The vision is for these event to culminate in an amazing experience for anyone coming to Digbeth on a first Friday:
Start the evening with a bit of shopping at Provide, stop off for streetfood at Digbeth Dining Club, go on to an exhibition at Grand Union, before wrapping things up at Club PST with some heavy reggae. Or maybe begin with an Irish film screening at the Spotted Dog, before catching a new band night at the Rainbow and then grabbing a midnight snack at an Edible Eastside bonfire.
Lots of spaces are already signed up, and the finishing touches are being made to the inaugural first Friday events. We will of course keep our readers up to date with offerings over the next few weeks, which are also being collated onto a brand new Digbeth First Friday website.
If you’d like to organise a first Friday event of your own, do contact Friction Arts who are coordinating efforts at firstname.lastname@example.org.
