Draw an Old Crown

I recently stumbled across this architectural drawing of the Old Crown, Birmingham’s oldest pub, on Digbeth High Street. The drawing was commissioned in the 1930s, and you can learn more by clicking either image. I firmly believe that The Old Crown is the crowning glory of Digbeth’s architecture; it’s great that the building has survived for so long and continues to be the same landmark it was when it was built in 1368.

In the 1930s, during the recession, a fund was put in place to employ architect’s to record the current buildings in and around Birmingham. The RIBA [Royal Institute of British Architects] WM Archives retains the vast majority of these detailed drawings. Some of these buildings and façades still remain in Birmingham.
