EUSTSIDE

Eastside Projects
1–24 June

More artists! Less borders!

On 1 June Eastside Projects will change the billboard on the front of the gallery for the last time. Artist Kathrin Böhm’s campaign artwork will ‘EU-ify’ our name as part of a month-long national artist-led campaign.

EU-UK seeks to diversify the EU Referendum debate and encourage the nation to instigate open and inclusive discussions that encourage humour, complexity and empathy amidst the increasing media polarisation of the referendum.

FAMILY WORKSHOP: CITY PLANNING

Saturday 2 July, 10.30am–12pm
£2 per child

If you could build a city what would it look like? What if the buildings could move? Or change shape? Or float or fly? What would they be made of? What would they be used for?

Imagining Heather and Ivan Morrison’s structure as the centre of a new, extraordinary city, we’ll create dens, pods and capsules and join them together to make a new world of temporary spaces for ourselves. Together we’ll explore how artists and architects select and use materials and design structures and environments and think about what goes into making a city and how it should be used – as city planners, the choice is yours!

PRODUCTION TALK: DES HUGHES

Tuesday 5 July, 6.30–8pm
£4/2/free to ESP

Artist Des Hughes joins us to introduce his practice in the context of his plans for Production Show. Des’ sculptural objects reconfigure our rapport with the everyday by staging banal ready-mades next to handcrafted replicas of commodities, and three-dimensional caricatures of familiar things. Hughes work has been show nationally and internationally – most recently at Hepworth Wakefield, (2015).
