Espirito Reggae

Although Espirito Brum Festival moved to King’s Heath in 2013, its spiritual home remains in Digbeth. This was acknowledged by Jota III (Jota Tres), a musician of international importance within Brazilian hip hop and reggae, as he filmed his new music video for the single Don’t Cut Off Your Dreadlocks right here!

After supporting Ja Rule during his 2008 tour, Jota III gained popular acclaim and commercial recognition through collaborations with Playstation 2, but has always maintained a fiercely independent stance within the music industry.

Talking about his latest offering, Jota said “the single has a lyrical and musical message. The lyrics talk about being true to yourself, maintaining your integrity and not letting prejudice get the better of you. It’s a universal positive message, and one the independent music industry can relate to.”

As well a featuring many spaces in Digbeth, Don’t Cut Off Your Dreadlocks features veteran Brummie toaster Pablo Rider, who has toured with UB40 and performed with Maka B and Pato Banton among others.

Jota’s video is due to air on MTV Brasil, so will be a great advert for Digbeth and the city! Watch the video below.
