So unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few weeks, you will already know about Original Patty Men’s latest venture in Digbeth.
The street food stars, who started at Digbeth Dining Club amongst other events, have gained their cult following for their no-nonsense delicious burgers. And rightly so.
I went along to sample their wares and atmosphere with a friend on a cold rainy Sunday morning, and they certainly didn’t disappoint! All the burgers are freshly prepared, which really makes a difference, the beauty being that you can now sit in the warm as opposed to waiting in line outside for your meat fix.
Other reviewers have annoyed me for two major reasons:
1. They have cited a “lack of atmosphere” – if your only reason for going to a restaurant is for the atmosphere, you have your priorities wrong. Also, maybe you should get some new dining companions? The venue really doesn’t matter when the food is this good (and this reasonably priced)!
Original Patty Men’s new home is small but perfectly formed, clean, and the service is great. What more could you possibly want?
2. Every single review I’ve seen says the restaurant is “out of the way”. Really? You can walk to OPM from the Bullring in under two minutes, and mostly undercover if you go under the railway bridge on Park Street.
I’d wager that it would be quicker to walk from New Street Station (I’m counting this as the centre of Birmingham) to OPM, than walking to an overpriced and over-hyped burger restaurant chain in Brindleyplace in the other direction. I think you other reviewers have got your bearings all in a fuddle.
Original Patty Men have a simple proposition: great burgers for a great price, and boy do they deliver! You can even splash out on a £40 bottle of craft beer (pictured) if you want. OPM have done a fantastic job of utilising a small space in Digbeth, filling it with fab street art, bespoke hand-made furniture and cool tunes.
If you’re looking for a gimmick-less burger, for a reasonable price, I wouldn’t recommend you going anywhere else! Long live OPM!
