Earlier this year, Digbeth Residents Association struck up a partnership with the social enterprise Textiles by St. Anne’s, based in the Abacus Building.
Textiles by St. Anne’s offers training opportunities to support people into work in the textiles industry, and are proud suppliers to clients such as Liberty of London, Paperchase, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
To increase awareness of the fantastic work of Textiles by St. Anne’s, Digbeth Residents Association brought together a group of residents, local business owners (including Sharon from CG’s Café), and even Councillor Yvonne Mosquito, to learn how to sew.
Seamstress Helen Costa ran a 16 week course enabling the group to get to grips with the machines and make their own items, including the sashes worn by DRA at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade!
We hope to secure funding to run another round of Sew Good classes either later in 2015 or in 2016. If you would like to learn more about Textiles by St. Anne’s, visit their website here.
