Sunflowers and Poppies
Birmingham Friends of the Earth volunteers sometimes engage in a spot of guerilla gardening, fighting the endless battle with concrete by planting seeds in neglected places.
One of these such places is the central reservation on Digbeth High Street. Although it plays host to flower boxes in the summer, the gardeners decided on some more permanent action by spreading joy in the form of poppy and sunflower seeds.
The results of their efforts have been seen over the summer, with sunflowers and poppies growing between traffic opposite the Irish Centre. They look pretty happy don’t you think?
