Bay Leaf in a Convent

Although the Bay Leaf Restaurant no longer lives in Digbeth, for those of you missing the taste of Bangladesh, there’s Bay Leaf @ Home!

Their first supper club will be held in St Mary’s Convent, designed by Augustus Pugin, who is most famous for the Palace of Westminster’s interior design. The evening will start with a tour of the building, followed by the meal, concluding with a chance to hear from writer Nick Corbett, author of Palace of Pugin.

Unfortunately, the 12th January will see the Bay Leaf restaurant in the Custard Factory close its doors. Digbeth Residents Association would like to thank Bay Leaf for all their help and support.

However, if you’re anything like us and will seriously miss their delicious food, all is not lost… Owner of the Bay Leaf, Aftab Rehman, will be launching a new venture, Bay Leaf at Home, next weekend:

We are leaving the Custard Factory, but we are not leaving you.

As a valued customer we would like to invite you to exclusive and exciting launch of Bay Leaf at Home on the 13th January at 6pm. We will be closer to you by focussing on cooking classes, supper club, external catering and event management.

The evening will include live music, canapés and a buffet meal – you are welcome to make a donation towards the food – as well as an introduction to Bay Leaf at Home. We will also be auctioning some of the Bay Leaf’s artwork.

We would like to thank everyone for their support and custom over the last 18 months. We are more grateful for your continuous support for Bay Leaf at Home and further adventures in the future.

Why not welcome 2013 in a style like no other? Only in Digbeth will you find Irish Music in a Bangladeshi restaurant, and a Bangla dish with a bit of Irish in it!

In the second installment of the Bangla Irish Night, Reel Note will play Irish folk songs while Bay Leaf provide their famous Guinness Balti this New Year’s Eve. Tickets are a very reasonable £15, which includes a two course meal.

Digbeth Residents Association held a Regeneration in Digbeth event in October, which was incredibly well attended and received fantastic feedback.

Bay Leaf are working in partnership with The Spotted Dog to keep everyone entertained with Digbeth’s first Bangla Irish Night on Friday 16th November.

As well as a two course meal including Bay Leaf’s legendary Chicken and Guinness balti, the evening will feature a chilli pakora eating competition (postponed from the Digbeth O’Lympics), live Irish dance performances, and live music from Reel Note. Not at all bad for twelve of your English pounds.

Classical guitar soloist Bill Hudd and multi-instrumental/vocalist Steve Birkett have been creating their own unique, acoustic interpretations of pop and rock classics for the last 15 years.

Come and enjoy a three course meal while listening to this fantastic duo perform covers and songs from their latest album Songs Through the Looking Glass.
