Do the Digbeth Shuffle

Photo: Winkles!

For anyone who missed Digbeth Shuffle at the Spotted Dog last Saturday, you seriously missed out!

Here’s some photo evidence of the raucous party that capped off Flatpack‘s season of dance films for the International Dance Festival Birmingham. Entertainment included rockabilly trio The Magnificatz, DJs from Sugarfoot Stomp and spectacular go-go routines courtesy of The Actionettes. Not to mention an impromptu conga line at the end.

There’s also a run down of events at the Urban75 blog.

Digbeth Shuffle

When: Saturday 12th May, 18:00 onwards
Where: The Spotted Dog, 104 Warwick Street, Digbeth, B12 0NH
This is a free event – just turn up and enjoy!

In May, The Spotted Dog’s marvellous beer garden will play host to a disco with a difference… The Shuffle will be coming to Digbeth for one night only, as part of International Dance Festival Birmingham 2012.

Attractions include Birmingham Hits the Floor; a compilation of archive rug-cutting from the Media Archive for Central England, and the soundtrack to the night will be provided by vintage vinyl squadron Sugarfoot Stomp. The Sugarfoot ladies will more than meet their match in special guests, 60s dance troupe The Actionettes (pictured), who plan to bring a blast of go-go glamour to Digbeth.

So come along and move your dancing feet! :-)

International Dance Festival Birmingham needs you!

In April and May, International Dance Festival Birmingham will not just bring the best of International Dance to the West Midlands for you to watch – they want you to take part in the festival too!

The organisers are looking for 1,000 people to be part of this flagship festival project, and you could be one of them. Wouldn’t it be great to have a Digbeth Residents Association dancing troupe showing the rest of the city what Home means to them?

You can get involved by making a film, composing a piece of music, or writing a poem, OR participating in public performances during International Dance Festival Birmingham (23rd April – 13th May).
