Taste of Digbeth
Local photographer, Paul Beale, recently undertook a project entitled Taste of Digbeth. The project required Paul to select six images out of hundreds of possibilities to introduce Digbeth.
I’ve chosen to take the title literally and go with the idea of food and drink. A lot of the iconic companies that once occupied the area have since left the Digbeth, but the buildings are still here.
After initial research, I went out for a walk around Digbeth to see the buildings I’d chosen to use as subjects. I was looking for was good viewpoints, but also to see what state the buildings were in and how well they have stood the test of time.
The buildings chosen for the project are:
- Birds Custard Factory
- Typhoo Tea Factory
- Geest Banana Warehouse
- The Bond – Tansley’s Ice Storage
- The Old Crown Public House
- RTP Crisp Manufacturer
My plan is to process the images in black and white or sepia tones, as this conjures up a sense of nostalgia.
