The Emporium

Those of you familiar with Digbeth will know the Christopher Wray building, located on the outskirts of Eastside City Park on Bartholomew Row.

Established while he was pursuing acting work, Wray famously turned down a full-time role in Emmerdale to focus on his lighting business, which was plagued with troubles in the years leading up to his death.

The building has laid fallow for some time, but Simon Linford of C-zero (part of the team behind the revitalisation of The Woodman) has plans to turn it into The Emporium, spending £15 million on a mix-used development comprising student accommodation, offices, and a Budapest-style ‘ruin’ bar.

The ruin bar will be decorated with memorabilia of the late Christopher Wray, celebrating its past while looking to the future of creating an even more vibrant Digbeth.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated with news on The Emporium.
