The Return of Kong
A statue of King Kong once stood in Birmingham’s Manzoni Gardens in the city centre back in the 1970s. It was loved and hated in equal measure, and has spent much of the past 40 years in a car park in Cumbria.
The statue’s current guardian has recently repainted Kong back to his former gloss-black glory, and is willing to return him back to Birmingham on loan if transport costs and a new site can be organised. Naturally, we’d love to see him in his spiritual home of Digbeth!
Three students from the University of Worcester hope to create a 15-minute film documenting the campaign to bring Kong back to Brum. The film makers, (Erik Wood, Lauren Davis and Wantida Rayab) would love to hear from people wanting to share memories of King Kong, or better still, original film footage of the figure.
If you are able to help, please contact the students by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
