The Seventeen is a group exhibition from an all-female cast of three Russian artists, opening at Centrala Space later this month.

  • Yelena Popova’s practice continually questions what painting can be and how it operates in contemporary conditions. She uses slowly-changing chemical reactions to create shimmering images in her work that withdraw into the canvas.
  • Nika Neelova’s work is loosely based on the idea of a possible dissolution to our attachment to reality, and explores the fluidity of matter through time.
  • Olga Grotova uses video to also construct a narrative around parallel timelines, creating a false sense of continuity; her works on canvas resemble action paintings.

For more information about the exhibition, see the Centrala website here, or visit their Facebook page.
