Unlocking The Warehouse
Ben Mabbett, a volunteer and trustee of BFOE, and friend of Digbeth Residents Association, explains why this is an important project below.
BFOE have worked together with DRA in the past, and they regularly host Digbeth First Friday events in Digbeth Community Garden at the rear of The Warehouse. We would encourage as many of our members as possible to support this project as much as they can!
BFOE have been in The Warehouse for 40 years, using it as their hub from which to campaign on environmental issues. The Warehouse is also home to The Warehouse Cafe, Sprocket Cycles, Natural Healthy Foods, along with a host of other social organisations.
The Warehouse is an old Victorian building that requires renovation, to not only make it more energy efficient, but to also make it more accessible for patrons with disabilities. The planned work would enable The Warehouse to sustainably fund itself, freeing BFOE to work more on campaigning to make Birmingham a more hospitable city.
We want to raise £240,000 of which £100,000 would be match invested from Co-ops UK. In return for your investment, we are offering a rate of return higher than most ISAs. In Year 2 we aim to pay 1% interest; 2% interest in Year 3; 3% interest in Year 4; the rate of return would be reviewed in Year 5.
