Chris Paul Daniels has made a series of audio/video portraits of residents and workers from Digbeth and Bordesley Village. Chris interviewed people living in Bordesley Village, young people involved in St Basil’s, and even yours truly…

Each portrait’s length is dictated by the distance from Birmingham New Street station to the location of the interview, creating collective portraiture through glimpsed lives inhabiting the locations. The completed film is being exhibited at A3 Project Space as part of Flatpack Festival 2015.

The footage collated jumps between different formats – black and white 8mm film, colour 16mm film and HD video to highlight the dramatic variations on how place can be represented, while the score by renowned electronic musician, Graham Massey builds on the theme of dis-location.

On Sunday 29th March, Chris will be at A3 to screen and discuss his experimental and reflexive approaches to portraiture regarding place formed through a series of projects in Nairobi, Newcastle, China, and Birmingham. To learn more, visit the A3 website, or the Facebook event page.
